It is important to care for your UV clothing properly. Chlorine, sand, high temperatures, and sunscreen can be hard on UV clothing, but with the right care, you will enjoy it for several seasons. Read our tips here for caring for and washing your UV clothing to ensure it stays beautiful and functional.
Shower First
For hygiene, it's good to shower before diving into the pool, but this has another advantage. Pool water often contains chlorine and other chemicals that are harmful to UV clothing. If you shower first, your swimwear absorbs "normal" water, which means the fabric will absorb fewer harmful substances from the pool water.
Rinse Thoroughly
Always rinse your UV clothing thoroughly with clean, cold water immediately after swimming to prevent fabric wear. If it is necessary to wash your UV clothing, always do it by hand. Fill the sink with cold water and add some delicate detergent. Gently wash your UV clothing and rinse it well with cold water. Do not soak your UV clothing. This is bad for the fibers and causes the clothing to lose elasticity. Do not wring out your UV clothing; this weakens the elastic and affects the fit.
Drying
After use, do not leave your UV clothing rolled up in a hand or bath towel, otherwise, the chlorine will have more time to penetrate the fabric, and your UV clothing may start to mold. It is best to let your UV clothing dry in the open air and in the shade after rinsing it. Never dry your swimwear in direct sunlight or near a heater. Do not hang your UV clothing on a metal hanger to dry; this can cause rust stains, and these stains are impossible to remove. UV clothing should absolutely not be put in the tumble dryer!
Discoloration
Despite the colorfastness of our UV clothing, it is not impossible for discoloration to occur under certain circumstances. High levels of chlorine, sunlight, and the salt content in the sea can damage your UV clothing and cause color changes. Also, some brands of sunscreen can leave (yellow) stains in the fabric that you cannot remove. Therefore, apply sunscreen 20 minutes before putting on your swimwear. If you need to reapply, try to avoid all contact with the fabric.
Rough Surfaces and Slides
Be careful with rough surfaces, such as concrete, floors, benches, and other rough materials, as these can cause tears and wear. Slides are cool attractions in the pool, but they can cause your UV clothing to wear out faster. Weak spots, pilling fabric, and/or holes are the result.
Sand
As with all swimwear, sand can sometimes get into the fibers of the fabric. Due to the density of the fabric, it can be more difficult to wash out dirt or sand, so stains may sometimes remain. To remove trapped sand, gently run your fingernail over the fabric when it is dry.
